Car rental requirements in Dubai

Renting with Luma is a request-and-confirm process. You tell us what you need, and we confirm the exact vehicle or an approved similar alternative, the final price, and every detail below before anything is booked. Here is what to prepare and what to expect.

Documents you need

UAE residents

If you are a UAE resident, you will need your Emirates ID and your UAE driving licence. Both are confirmed before your rental is arranged.

  • Emirates ID
  • UAE driving licence

Tourists and visitors

  • Passport
  • Driving licence

If you are visiting the UAE, you will need your passport and your driving licence.

Whether a foreign driving licence is accepted on its own, or whether an International Driving Permit is also required, depends on the country that issued your licence. We confirm exactly what is accepted for your situation before your rental — please share your licence details when you make a request so we can check.

What is confirmed with your quotation

Nothing is left to assumption. Before you book, your quotation confirms:

  • the vehicle or model — or an approved similar alternative;
  • your rental dates and duration;
  • the final price;
  • the mileage allowance;
  • insurance and excess;
  • the security requirement;
  • the payment method;
  • delivery and collection arrangements;
  • any additional-driver requirements;
  • any optional extras you ask for.

Available payment and security options are confirmed with your quotation, and not every option applies to every vehicle.

During and after your rental

The exact amounts and conditions for everything below appear in your rental agreement. We explain them clearly before you book — we do not surprise you with them afterwards.

Salik and road tolls

Dubai uses the Salik electronic toll system. How tolls are handled during your rental is set out in your rental agreement.

Traffic fines

Any traffic fines incurred during your rental period are your responsibility. The handling and any administration are described in your rental agreement.

Fuel or charging

The fuel or charging policy — how the car is provided and how it should be returned — is confirmed in your rental agreement.

Extensions

Need the car for longer? Message us on WhatsApp before your return date and we will confirm whether an extension is possible and on what terms.

Late return

Returning later than agreed can affect the next arrangement for the vehicle. Any late-return conditions are set out in your rental agreement, so tell us as early as you can if your plans change.

Damage reporting

If anything happens to the car, contact us on WhatsApp as soon as possible. The reporting steps and your responsibilities are described in your rental agreement.

Who your rental is with

The rental contract is between Luma Car Rental LLC and you, the customer. Luma handles your quotation, booking, communication, and the whole rental from start to finish.
